2010 for Year 6/7
As part of our Science studies in Term 2, we are studying Lake Monger.
A series of questions to research and answer are below:
1.Using your own understandings and skills plus online search techniques, answer the following questions.
2.How many different species of birds visit Lake Monger each year?
3.Of these, how many call the lake’s habitats, home.
4.Describe the habitats of two of the lake’s birds.
5.Why do you think that lakes such as Lake Monger are important to us? Try to address several different reasons within your answer.
6.Lake Monger is part of a chain of lakes running down the coastal plain of Perth. Name as many as you can of the other lakes within the Perth metro area that are part of this.
7.Research the reasons for these lakes being here. Use the Water Cycle as part of your explanation.
Go to http://education.jlab.org/reading/water_cycle.html and check your understandings of the Water Cycle.
We went to Fremantle and had a great time. It was a pity that the day was so hot but that didn’t stop us having great fun!
The class are writing recounts of the day and some of these will be posted here when finished. In the meantime, here is a quick slideshow of the day. Enjoy!
Please visit the homework page regularly to find out about tasks set by Mrs Medcalf for MathsOnline.
I hope everyone has an early night and is well rested for our big day at Fremantle tomorrow. We will visit the Fremantle Maritime Museum and the Shipwreck gallery after travelling to Freo by train. We’ll have a great time building and testing our boat designs and will find out a lot about our great state’s history.
Make sure your drink bottle is full because its going to be a scorcher.
We’ll take and edit some video, plus still pictures and post them to this blog, Friday.

Another great site that the class will be making good use of will be WorldBook Web, located at http://www.worldbookonline.com The school has taken out a subscription to the site for 2010.
The students have been given a username and password to be used on this site. This will allow us to research using verified sources and will provide many extra benefits to students using it. Check it out!
The class have been introduced to MathsOnline. This website, located at http://www.mathsonline.com.au will allow all of our class, access to
Maths work that is currently being done. Some areas will be used as homework and others, during class. It is not a replacement for classwork but will assist students with many areas of the Maths curriculum. It will also allow parents to track the progress of the student, with this resource, over time.

Wow! We have some talented public speakers in our Year Seven group. After only knowing the children for less than two weeks I was really impressed by the way they spoke about their attributes and aspirations towards being a student councillor for this coming year. The voting will be hot and very close. Good luck to all candidates!
Please complete the write up of your Science activity done today. Remember our discussion about crossing out and the use of liquid paper…don’t do it and don’t use it. I want to collect the Science books tomorrow to have a look at what you’ve done.
Continue to work on your family history research and have it ready to display Friday. If you don’t have access to a computer to do this, don’t worry. Handwrite it neatly. Pictures aren’t necessary if you can’t get them.
Elyssa gave us a link to another great site for finding out the meaning of your name. http://www.meaning-of-names.com/ Thanks for that, Elyssa!!
Year 7′s: Be ready for Student Councillor speeches tomorrow after lunch. Remember to tell mums, dads and others that they are very welcome to come and watch the speeches. These will be done in the hall.
We have a new page and it is dedicated to that wonderful stuff, Homework.
Have a look regularly and you’ll see what we have set in class. Reminders for current class notes etc will also be posted there.
Glad to see that you like what I have done, kids!
I hope you all realise that everytime you comment, I get 2 emails!! My inbox floweth over;-)
I cannot change the look of the blog too much and will leave it as it is, now.
We will be reviewing the guidelines for the use of the blog tomorrow and setting some purposes for the use of it.
See you then.
Mr. Mc
